Music
has always been a joy in my life. As a toddler I would listen to
music on radio, and go to the piano to play it. After many
years of private piano and voice study, I majored in music in
college. I graduated from EWU with a degree in vocal performance,
and a teaching degree.
As member of Spokane Music Teachers
(SMTA) for over 25 years, I served in various positions on the board
and am a past president. I co-chaired a Washington State Music
Teachers convention. As part of SMTA fall workshop I
presented a workshop on Keyboard Ensembles. I’ve attended many
Music Teachers National Conventions and International Workshops.
My
teaching has been enriched by working with many Master Teachers over the
years, a practice I still actively continue. I attend
National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy to sharpen my skills, chat
with others in the field, and check out the newest in music available.
Students of mine have gone on to advanced musical studies with the aid of scholarships.
Everyone deserves a musical education. Teaching
music is a very joyful, fulfilling experience for me. Being able
to work one on one frees me to draw upon each individual’s
strengths. I delight in finding music that will enrich
their learning experience.
I am looking forward to my 50th year of teaching.
